Merecidamente, os padrinhos do heavy metal Black Sabbath encabeçam a extensa lista com a obra-prima “Paranoid” (1970). Elogiado, o segundo álbum da banda gerou hinos memoráveis como War Pigs, Iron Man e Paranoid. A revista Rolling Stone justificou o primeiro lugar:
“Paranoid era o som da realidade do Black Sabbath, um pedido de entendimento que ressoava com milhões de pessoas que sentiam o mesmo desajuste, muitos dos quais formariam grupos como Metallica, Pantera e Slipknot – grupos que mudariam a cara do metal, também do mundo “.
